There are many people in the world who have a disability of some form or another. Some of these people may be getting assistance with their disability and others are being swept under the rug and are still suffering. The system (especially in the United States) is not a fair system and there need to be changes made for it to work more sufficiently but it is not likely to be changed. The people’s Social Security account in the hands of the government is almost depleted because someone in higher offices did not think wisely and save it. Instead, the money has been spent over the years for other (sometimes unnecessary) purposes, without the knowledge of the public. The money should have been put into bonds or positive investments so they could have been growing over the years instead of shrinking. It makes no sense how so called educated officials could do something so ignorant, without even considering the future of the people. That is, unless they didn’t care about the people at all and just lined their own pockets with a lot of the money.

There are many people who have tried to get help from the government because they are either partially disabled or totally disabled and many of these U. S. citizens are being denied help. It makes no difference if they paid social security taxes for many years, they are denied anyway. They have to fight for what is rightfully theirs. This does not make any sense at all. Plus it is not at all a fair practice by the government. Many people give up the fight and just end up suffering because they do not see any hope for them. Many people do not see the equality that this country is supposed to have. The illegal aliens in the United States seem to have more rights than the hard working citizens. The citizens are paying for the illegal aliens to eat, seek medical treatment, etc. while many Americans do not have this aid and are suffering because of it.

There is a Disability Rights Movement which is led by individuals with disabilities, which began in the 1970’s. They are working toward helping to shift more independent living and accessibility for the disabled. This movement has since spread to other countries and is influencing others to better their way of life instead of living their lives out in an institution somewhere. With just a little assistance many of these disabled people can provide a home for themselves and not be stuck in a room. They can have a social life and mix with the outside world. This is a new treatment for them and can also improve their overall health.
