What Dean says is the surest thing to prevent the situation. You could
always keep your funds in a safe. Another thing that I've seen people do is
get checks rather than direct deposits, change banks, deposit your checks in
the new bank, NEVER send your creditors a check (only money order from
another source...not your bank) or pay your creditors via electronic
transfers from your bank, and then they won't know where to file the
garnishment/attachment. They only way they can then, to my knowledge, locate
funds would be to make a guess, file garnishment/attachments at every bank
(they don't have to file at a specific branch), and/or through a debtor's
exam. You have to be honest at a debtor's exam when they inquire about bank
information, but nothing says you can't leave the debtor's exam an
immediately close the account out. All of this means you can't have
automatically deposits and/or withdrawals set up on your banking account or
you could really mess yourself up. Plus, this also still carries the risk of
possible garnishment/attachment; it just reduces the odds.
