In my state (OK) you apply at the department of human services (DHS).
This is where you apply for food stamps. They send you to another
agency where you fill out the application and give copies of your wage
and bank account statments. There is a limit on the amount of income
you can have, also your bank and savings accounts need to be below a
limit. here there is about a 6 month wait after you apply, however
this changes constantly. If accepted you pay up to 30% of your monthly
income for rent, and the state pays the rest. This does not include
heating/cooling.
