First, it is a 5-month waiting period. Before 1973 or so, it was 6
months.

DI Waiting Period for Disability Insurance Benefits (DIB)
________
Second, unless there has been a very recent change, it's still my
understanding that if your onset is the first day of the month, that
month should count as the first month of the waiting period, meaning
that month of entitlement is 4/07. If your onset was on any other day
of the month, the month of entitlement should be 5/07.
_____
As for Medicare entitlement, the simplest way is to add 24 months to
your month of SSDI entitlement.
Adding 2 years and 5 months to onset date won't always work. In your
case it does, but not always.
If your established onset, ., is five years ago, 8/02, and you
filed today, your month of entitlement would be 8/06 because a DI
application has a 12-month retroactive life maximum.
Add 24 months to 8/06.
Do not add 29 months to 8/02.

Do I automatically get Medicare benefits if I'm eligible for
disability benefits?
Answer
We will automatically enroll you in Medicare after you get
disability benefits for two years. We start counting the 24 months
from the month you were entitled to receive Disability(snip)
