Hi, i am on middle rate care component and bottom rate mobility component.
I used to get severe disabilty allowance but then my son who was at college,
finished college and because he was over 18 yrs of age he was classed as a
non dependant adult.
i was told that i could not get severe disability allowance and that my son
would have to claim careres allowance, which he did.
Because my son was on jobseekers allowance the difference in money amounted
to about £27 shortfall.
My son then went and joined the army and i went back onto severe disability
allowance.
My son is now back out of the army (it was not for him) and he has claimed
jobseekers allowance.
So i am back in the same situation.
What do i do?
I have another son who is 18, in college and doing less than 21 hours study
a week.
He claims £30 per week EMA
I get income support and child benefit for him.
would it be financially better for my son who is at college to claim carers
allowance for me.
I rang a benefits helpline who informed me that my son who was at college
could not claim carers allowance for me as i was claiming income support and
child benefit for him?
Very confused as to who should claim the careres allowance
thank you
